The commissioner's court is well divided currently. One commissioner is from Dayton, one is from Liberty, one is from the North of the County and another represents the Hardin and those areas.
Precinct 1, for better or worse, depending where you live, is drawn to favor the population on the east side of the Trinity River. Well over 75% of voters in the district live in this area.
In the current race there are two men running that are from Dayton, and certainly represent the minority portion of the district far more than the other two men from the Liberty area.
We have stated before, and will continue to, that the city of Liberty, those in Devers and other areas run the risk of a lopsided commissioners court if either candidate from Dayton wins. Essentially, putting two representatives from Dayton on half the court, leaving the city of Liberty underrepresented. Historically, this has rarely been the case.
Additionally, the current commissioner, to give that minority section of the district on the west side of the district the care it has been needing, has begun building a County Work Yard off of FM 1409. Those in Liberty or Devers should consider strongly a Dayton candidate may very well move all operations to that side. Leaving those in Devers to pretty much be over 35 miles from their road and bridge repair crews.
Though we have supported the current commissioner, Bruce Karbowski, we strongly suggest those in Liberty, Devers and others on the east side of the district strongly consider either Mr. Karbowski or Mr. Williams. The election of Mr. Wilburn or Mr. Carson would leave the majority of the district to the whims of the minority, far from the center of the population center.
If you can't see your way to support Mr. Karbowski, we favor Mr. Williams as a strong fallback vote.
